Located on the shores of Lake Beulah, Wisconsin, Edwards YMCA Camp & Retreat Center is a branch of the Golden Corridor Family YMCA. Its 132 acres of forest, marshland, and prairie have offered youth and adult camp programs since 1929. The Seigle Welcome Center is the first stop in the wilderness as new campers arrive.
The new building is rustic and designed to fit well with the existing campground buildings. The log-look exterior met the energy efficiency goals of the project — important for a year-round campground that experiences frigid Wisconsin winters. The operable windows provide ample ventilation during the summe time, and the transoms allow for higher light transmission.
The new Welcome Center Building of Edwards YMCA Camp & Retreat Center is designed to fit well with the existing campground buildings.
Children who are away from their parents for the first time are welcomed in the comfortable and homey lobby.
The interior design is warm and inviting. Children who are away from their parents for the first time are welcomed in the comfortable and homey lobby. Rustic accents, like the stone fireplace and pine window frames, set the mood for a complete away-from home camp and retreat.
Beyond the lobby and reception area are the administrative offices and a conference room. The other wing houses the multi-bed infirmary, with the nurse’s apartment adjacent to the infirmary. This small residence offers a living room with kitchenette, one bedroom, and one bathroom.
Camp Edwards serves approximately 1,260 youths in its summer resident camp, and 4,500 in environmental education. The new building will increase logistical capacity and camper capacity of both the camp and retreat center.
